Around 5 hours each way by road. It’s a long day with an early start, but the temples, the dam and the felucca sail make it worthwhile.
Aswan is more about Nile scenery, the graceful Philae temple and a felucca sail, while Luxor focuses on the tombs and vast temples of the New Kingdom. Both are superb; many guests do each on a separate day.
Abu Simbel is a further 3 hours south of Aswan, so it usually requires an overnight or a very long two-day itinerary. Ask us and we’ll design it for you.
Yes, a traditional felucca sail on the Nile is part of the standard itinerary — a relaxing highlight of the day.
Moderate walking at Philae and the dam, on mostly even ground. Good shoes, a hat and water keep it comfortable.
